Practical guidance

Start informed.

These answers describe MSA's standard platform and service position. A written Service Order may add case-specific scope, but it cannot turn MSA into an authority or replace a decision reserved for another organisation.

01

Working with MSA

What does Maritime Support Agency do?

MSA is an independent consultancy. We help active and aspiring seafarers understand pathways, organise evidence, prepare applications, coordinate lawful follow-up, and keep career-critical work visible in one secure place.

Is MSA a maritime authority, school, employer, or certificate issuer?

No. MSA does not issue certificates, determine medical fitness, confer sea service, admit students, grant visas, or make recruitment decisions. The responsible authority, institution, examiner, doctor, employer, or provider retains each official decision.

How do I begin?

Start with a short, non-sensitive enquiry describing your current position and intended outcome. We will identify the likely route and explain what information is needed before requesting detailed records.

Can you guarantee approval, admission, a certificate, or employment?

No. We can improve preparation, evidence quality, coordination, and visibility, but we never guarantee a decision controlled by another organisation.

02

Documents, privacy, and security

Should I send certificates or passport copies through the contact form?

No. The public contact form is only for non-sensitive enquiries. If documents are relevant, sign in to the secure portal and follow the document-processing authorisation and upload steps.

What happens when I upload a document?

The portal validates the file type and signature, stores it privately, scans it for malware where configured, records an integrity checksum, and keeps version history. An internal review is a readiness check and is not official verification by an issuer.

Does uploading a document allow MSA to share it?

No. Uploading authorises secure storage and internal handling under the portal controls. External disclosure requires an appropriate service instruction or separate authority.

Can I replace or delete a document?

Yes. You can upload a new version without losing the file history, or delete a document you own. Some records may still need to be preserved where law, an active dispute, or an agreed service record requires it.

03

Cases, fees, and opportunities

How long will my request take?

Timing depends on the service, the completeness of your evidence, your response time, and third-party processing. Your case status distinguishes work MSA is handling from stages awaiting an external organisation.

How are fees explained?

Before chargeable work begins, the service scope should identify MSA's fee, known third-party costs, dependencies, and payment terms. Authority, school, medical, travel, and provider charges remain separate unless a written Service Order says otherwise.

Does registering interest guarantee a vacancy or sea-time placement?

No. An opportunity interest helps MSA understand your profile and availability for internal matching. Any introduction, application, shortlisting, employment, or placement remains subject to the relevant organisation's process.

How does the professional network stay safe?

Posts are moderated, members can report concerning content or conduct, and access is governed by the Acceptable Use Policy. Do not publish sensitive documents, confidential vessel information, or claims you cannot support.

Still need clarity?

Tell us the outcome you are working toward.

Begin without sending sensitive documents. We will help identify the likely pathway and appropriate next step.
